​What is the CHIC?
The CHIC includes community leaders, Community Advisory Council members, and leaders from different sectors and organizations. Membership is based on engaging perspectives and expertise around the key issues identified in the Community Health Assessment (CHA). We value the voices of all members of the community and welcome you to consider supporting the work of the CHIC by staying informed.  

CHIC membership includes representatives from the following:​
​15th Night, Alliance for a Safe Oregon, American Cancer Society, Be Your Best Cottage Grove, Beyond Toxics, Burrito Brigade, Cascadia Mobility, Community Advisory Council, Corvallis Housing First, Eugene Family YMCA, Lane County (Behavioral Health, Human Services, Veteran Services, Community Health Centers, Federally Qualified Health Centers), Lane County Systems of Care, Lane County Tenant Coalition, Parenting Now, Siuslaw Vision Team, Florence Farmers Market, The Arc of Lane County, United Way of Lane County, Veterans Mental Health Advocacy Council

What will the CHIC do?
The CHIC’s main job is to guide, develop, and support implementation of the 2026-2030 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHP),  which is a plan with strategies, actions, and measures to improve community health in Lane County. The CHIC's first task will be to help identify the priorities for the CHP based on data gathered for the 2024-2025 CHA. Here is a detailed timeline of the work the CHIC can expect to complete this year.
  • July – Complete CHIC orientation and meet as a coalition at least once to review and prioritize issue profiles from the Community Health Assessment (CHA) Goal: Establish decision-making structure and develop the new CHP priorities.
  • August/September - Identify best practices and develop actionable strategies for the CHP that reflect community needs and promote equity. Options to join existing topic specific workgroups on tobacco education, transportation equity, and policy. Goal: Write draft sections of the CHP goals and strategies, and actions for each strategy. Data team will develop the measures and indicators to track progress over time.
  • October – 2026-2030 CHP draft ready for review. Goal: CHP is a guiding and actionable resource for the CHIC and organizations with clear paths to implementation.
  • November – CHP is presented to the Community Advisory Council, an Oregon Health Plan consumer council, for adoption. Goal: CHP is submitted to the Oregon Health Authority.
  • December – Plan the CHP Celebration and regroup CHIC members to build implementation teams. Goal: Successfully implement the CHP, tracking progress over time. 

What will guide the CHIC's work?
Data collected from the CHA will be put into issue profiles. These summaries will  be prioritized by the CHIC which will help them understand the key focus areas for creating strategies and a community wide action plan for the new 2026-2030 CHP. Check out the issue profiles on the 2024 CHA page. 

What has been developed so far? 
Three CHP Priorities: 

Affordable, Inclusive Health Services 
Goal: 
  • Make sure physical, behavioral, mental, and dental health services meets everyone’s needs by being affordable, culturally relevant, and trauma-informed.
Strategy focus areas: health literacy, Traditional Health Worker awareness, tracking and collaborating with existing work.

Community Resilience & Basic Needs
Goals:  
  • Everyone has access to the material things (housing, food, utilities, clean air and water) and services (transportation, childcare, and education) they need to thrive.
  • Everyone has opportunities to build social connections, create support networks, and contribute to making their community a safe and healthy place.
  • ​Access to resources for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery are equitable.
Strategy focus areas: basic needs and emergency preparedness, neighborhood to state level policy work, tracking and collaborating with existing work.

Mental Health & Well-Being
Goals: 
  • Expand early screening and referral for perinatal and early childhood mental health, starting in pregnancy and continuing through early childhood.
  • Strengthen communication and coordination across the mental health system.
Strategy focus areas: early screening and referral exploration, promoting existing parent and caregiver support programs, positive school climates, information sharing and referral system exploration, available mental health supports, mental health literacy, stigma reducing campaigns.
